Another mixtape, but I’m not nearly as excited for this one. Remember when seeing a new Wale track meant an instant download? I wouldn’t even stream new shit from him. Just download and put the shit directly in my iPod. Times have changed. In the past ten days alone I must have passed up on at least 5 tracks that didn’t warrant a download. Anyway, here’s his new mixtape. His second album, Ambition, is due out on November 11th.
P.S. Whoever posts Wale’s music on twitter fucking SUCKS at properly tagging the mp3s. I’ve noticed that some time ago with regards to all the individual tracks he would share, but this whole mixtape is just as bad. Anyway, I fixed all the ID3 tags and uploaded my own .zip to save everyone the eyesore and time.
YAYAYAYAY. The new Weeknd mixtape is here. Nine new tracks to follow up on the nine that comprised House of Balloons. One of those nine is “The Zone”, featuring Drake. Here’s that one:
This post is the spawn of my previous one, where I shared Kid Cudi’s latest batch of crap with you. When I finished writing it up I felt the need to put up some of his previously awesome work that he’s seemingly abandoned. Upon browsing through my 786 megabytes of Cudder’s mp3s on my hard drive I quickly realized that there are tons of forgotten anthems and they all deserve to be given some shine.
The artwork above is from Cudi’s debut single “Day N Nite”, the last vinyl I bought before I departed the states for Barcelona back in the summer of 2008. At that point the Crookers version wasn’t even out, so it was the single on one side and “Dat New New” on the B side. Cudi had just gotten signed to Fools Gold Records so I copped the record from Turntable Lab and promptly recorded the vinyl into mp3s. “Day N Nite”, as you all well know, went on to blow him up into the superstar he is now, but here is the seldom heard B Side from that vinyl. You can even here some of the crackles from my recording…damn dusty needles. I’m not sure what ever happened to this track because I haven’t seen it on any Cudi mixtapes. Perhaps it just fell by the wayside as “Day N Nite” took off.
This next one was probably the next thing I heard Kid Cudi on after the aforementioned single. Jackie Chain’s (best rap name ever?) single had been out for a minute at that point, but Cudder hopped on the second verse in the remix and was a very welcome addition, one which made a lot of sense given his stoner persona.
These next two are off some Cudi mixtapes that you should reaaaally listen to if you like any of these tracks. First is the remix of A Tribe Called Quest’s classic “Buggin’ Out” with Consequence (this is such a heater) and the second is another tune dedicated to weed smoking.
XV first popped up on my radar last summer when he dropped his Everybody’s Nobody mixtape. Tracks like “Awesome”, “Mirror’s Edge”, and the title track, “Everybody’s Nobody” were serious anthems of mine all through 2009. All those tracks are posted below, so if you haven’t already I strongly encourage taking a listen. Anyway, a couple days ago the man himself tweeted that he got signed to Warner Bros. Records. After rapping for nearly ten years (dude started when he was 15 years old) and releasing 13 mixtapes (since 2006 alone) it’s good to see him on a major label. His debut album, The Kid With The Green Backpack, is still slated for a 2010 release, but I’m skeptical of that. In honor of his signing he put together a mixtape of his best tunes. Here it is.
First mentioned here about a month ago, here’s the sequel to Wale’s Seinfeld inspired mixtape from 2008. I haven’t gotten around to listening to it yet, but hopefully it’s awesome because the first one was a classic.
There’s only a couple of things that you can count on in this world, one of which is that any music put out by Caps and/or Jones is sure to be fire. When it comes to either of these dudes you don’t need to stream a preview, look at a tracklist, or read a cosign from a blog, you should just go right ahead and download it.
Black Sheep Skate Shop Presents: Pandemonium Jones – Skull Candle
My friends at Black Sheep Skate Shop in Charlotte asked me to make them a mix for their website. Two years ago. Whoops! What can I say, I got distracted. They didn’t mind much, and neither do I, and neither should you, cuz it’s a rad mix of funky rock and psychedelic soul that makes you want to strut confidently in rhythm to your local head shop and buy a blacklight poster and a feathered roach clip. I’m presuming it would be good to skateboard to, as well.
